    I purchased this book with great expectation and was disappointed in its rambling diatribe. The book gets bogged down in an inordinate amount of detail. The only reason I rated it a 'two' was that the author did his best to portray a pivotal point in our nations history. Some interesting pages, however to few and far between.

    Peter Fitzsimons tells the story from the perspective of the solider on the ground, the ferocity of the battles, the courage and determination of those who fought, and not as a war story recited by a general sitting many kilometres away. The story is very much a critical piece in the overall mosaic of Australian history, and every Australian should read this well executed account and understand what Kokoda really means to Australia.

    Thank you Peter for setting the record straight. It's extraordinary that such a miscarriage of truth can occur at the top levels at a national level. The fact that our 'untrained' 'choco' can be successful despite two enemies: overwhelming enemy forces as well as incompetent Australian top brass is inspiring and makes me proud to be Australian. The incredible story of Kokoda should be taught as part of standard school curriculum across Australia. It defines us. Extraordinary!
